Guqin Lady with Flowing Scarf – Bronze Sculpture

Hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, 800 × 330 × 2080 mm, 18.6 kg. A green-robed guqin player with an elegant flowing scarf, finished with a hand-applied, sealed patina — ideal for hotel lobbies, sales centers and entrance halls.

Product Overview

Cast by the traditional lost-wax method and finished entirely by hand, this bronze figure presents a green-robed guqin player with an elegant flowing scarf. a hand-applied green patina gives the surface its depth, and the simplified planes keep the design readable in modern interiors. At 800 × 330 × 2080 mm, it is designed for lobby floors and large entrance surfaces.

The ribbon is the composition: a single wide band that sweeps up from the base, circles the figure and closes the loop. The lady stands inside it, playing, her green robe calm against the dark band. The interplay of one smooth curve and one figure makes the sculpture readable from across a lobby.

The patina is built up in layers and sealed, which means tone varies slightly from piece to piece — the mark of genuine hand finishing rather than a sprayed imitation. On a lobby floor or large entrance surface, it holds its own without competing with the furniture around it, and it needs no more care than an occasional soft-cloth dusting.

Design Inspiration: Ribbons in the Air

Western modern dance gave us the image of the dancer wrapped in flying fabric — Isadora Duncan with her scarf, the flowing lines of Art Nouveau. This series translates that image into bronze: a green-robed musician ringed by a great ribbon that loops around her body like a line of music. The ribbon is not decoration; it is the gesture made visible, the movement of the performance held in space.

Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina

Casting begins with the original master model. A wax copy is coated in ceramic, fired, and replaced with molten bronze in the lost-wax method our foundry has used for years. The hollow-cast bronze is then fettled and finished by hand — seams removed, detail sharpened, surface evened — before the patina is built up in successive washes and sealed to protect the tone. Small variations between pieces are the signature of hand finishing, not a defect.

The ribbon is cast as part of the figure but finished separately: polished dark on the outer face, shaded within the loop, so the band catches light differently as you walk around the piece.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is the ribbon fragile?

No — it is cast bronze as part of the same body, with generous thickness at the curve. The sculpture is finished as one piece and packed with the ribbon braced; normal indoor display poses no risk.

2. What does the ribbon mean?

It stands for movement and music made visible — in Chinese painting terms, ribbons riding the wind. Western visitors usually read it as a dancer’s scarf; both readings are welcome, and neither is wrong.

3. Can I order this piece in a different color?

Yes. The finish shown is the standard patina of this model, but the same sculpture can be produced in other tones — warm brown, antique gold, verdigris green or a custom two-tone patina. Hand patina is our standard process, so an alternative finish does not significantly affect lead time.

4. Is each sculpture exactly the same?

The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.

5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?

Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
