Sheep Climbing the Cliff

Hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, 328 × 145 × 450 mm (3 sizes), 5 kg / 3 kg / 1.3 kg. Golden ram climbing a cliff base, three sizes, finished with a hand-applied, sealed patina — ideal for living rooms, hotel lounges and reception areas.

Product Overview

Model XL23A1-38 is built around a single image: golden ram climbing a cliff base. The piece is hollow-cast by the traditional lost-wax method, then patinated and sealed by hand, so a hand-applied patina sits over crisp, hand-chased detail. At 328 × 145 × 450 mm (supplied in 3 sizes), it is sized for sideboards, consoles and reception counters.

The body is modeled as a series of broad, confident masses — chest, shoulder, haunch — separated by clean transitions rather than surface fuss. Horns, where the model has them, are the counterpoint: thin, precise, and polished to catch light, they give the piece its lift.

The patina is built up in layers and sealed, which means tone varies slightly from piece to piece — the mark of genuine hand finishing rather than a sprayed imitation. On a sideboard, console or reception counter, it holds its own without competing with the furniture around it, and it needs no more care than an occasional soft-cloth dusting.

Design Inspiration: Strength, Ambition and the Charge Ahead

The bull is one of the most widely understood symbols in the world: on Wall Street it is the image of a rising market, in Mediterranean tradition it stands for courage, and in the Chinese zodiac it stands for diligence and steadily accumulated wealth. Mountain sheep — argali, ibex and antelope — add the other half of the message: at home on sheer cliffs, they stand for ambition and the confidence to climb. This bronze borrows both languages: mass where the animal is powerful, upward line where it reaches.

Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina

The piece is produced by the traditional lost-wax method. Wax is modelled from the master, invested in a ceramic shell and burnt out, and molten bronze is poured into the cavity, so the finished casting is a hollow bronze shell rather than a solid block — lighter to handle, easier to place, and true to the way fine bronzes have been made for centuries. After casting, the surface is chased and polished by hand, then patinated in layered tones and sealed.

Horns and hooves are the precision points of this model: after casting they are filed and re-polished by hand so the spiral ridges and edges stay sharp, while the body keeps its softer, matte patina.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What does the bull (or horned sheep) symbolize?

Bulls stand for strength, determination and growth — the familiar “charging bull” image of a rising market — which makes them a favorite for offices and opening gifts. Horned sheep and antelope stand for ambition and the ability to climb, literally and figuratively.

2. Are the horns fragile?

No. The horns are cast integrally with the body as one bronze piece, so there is no joint to work loose. They are bronze through the section — hollow-cast like the rest of the shell — and will flex slightly under impact rather than snapping like resin or ceramic.

3. Can I order this piece in a different color?

Yes. The finish shown is the standard patina of this model, but the same sculpture can be produced in other tones — warm brown, antique gold, verdigris green or a custom two-tone patina. Hand patina is our standard process, so an alternative finish does not significantly affect lead time.

4. Is each sculpture exactly the same?

The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.

5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?

Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
