Product Overview
Model XL17A3-21 is built around a single image: carp leaping over turquoise waves. The piece is hollow-cast by the traditional lost-wax method, then patinated and sealed by hand, so a hand-applied patina sits over crisp, hand-chased detail. It is designed for lobby floors and large entrance surfaces.
On compositions with stone or waves, the stone carries the mass and the fish carries the line — a deliberate division that keeps the bronze from feeling heavy in the hand and in the room.
Because every surface is patinated by hand before sealing, the finish has depth: brighter where the forms rise, deeper in the hollows. Placed on lobby floors and large entrance surfaces, the sculpture reads as a lived-in bronze object rather than a plated ornament, and it keeps its tone with nothing more than routine dusting.
Design Inspiration: Abundance, Perseverance and Living Water
Fish have meant abundance in nearly every culture — in China the word for fish sounds like the word for “surplus”, and in European tradition the fish was an ancient sign of faith and of plentiful waters. The carp adds a story everyone can enjoy: the legend of the carp leaping the dragon gate, perseverance rewarded by transformation — the same story Japanese koi carry worldwide today. This bronze takes the fish mid-motion: body arched, fins set, the water suggested by a single swell or a companion stone rather than spelled out in detail.
Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina
Casting begins with the original master model. A wax copy is coated in ceramic, fired, and replaced with molten bronze in the lost-wax method our foundry has used for years. The hollow-cast bronze is then fettled and finished by hand — seams removed, detail sharpened, surface evened — before the patina is built up in successive washes and sealed to protect the tone. Small variations between pieces are the signature of hand finishing, not a defect.
Fins and tails are the thin-section work: each is checked after casting, cleaned and burnished so the edges catch light, while scale relief — where the model uses it — is cut shallow so the patina reads as shading rather than pattern.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does a fish sculpture symbolize?
Abundance — in Chinese the word for fish sounds like “surplus”, and European tradition long used the fish as a sign of plenty — plus the carp’s famous story of perseverance rewarded, the dragon-gate legend carried worldwide by Japanese koi. Fish pieces suit studies, entrances and business settings.
2. Do the fish-and-stone pieces use real stone?
The stone-form element is set into the base as part of the composition. The exact materials of your piece are confirmed in the listing description and your quotation — contact us if you need the detail in writing before ordering.
3. Can I order this piece in a different color?
Yes. The finish shown is the standard patina of this model, but the same sculpture can be produced in other tones — warm brown, antique gold, verdigris green or a custom two-tone patina. Hand patina is our standard process, so an alternative finish does not significantly affect lead time.
4. Is each sculpture exactly the same?
The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.
5. What is the MOQ?
We work with both single-piece orders and bulk project orders. Contact us with your quantity and destination port for an accurate quotation and lead time.
