XLJJ-DZ001 is the smallest piece in our elephant group. Standing 350 mm high, it works as a stool for occasional seating, a footrest, or a low stand for a plant or a stack of books. The elephant is modelled with a compact, upright stance; the body is covered in a dark bronze patina that breaks into green and gold speckles, and the seat above it is a polished brass disc that reflects the light.
The whole piece is hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, which is what allows a stool of this size to weigh 7 kg — heavy enough to stay where it is put, light enough to be carried with one hand. The dark speckled surface is not a coating but a hand-applied patina, so it varies around the body and deepens in the recesses where the legs and ears meet the torso.
Because it is small, it is the easiest way to introduce bronze into a room: beside a fireplace, under a side table, in a child’s reading corner, or at the end of a run of cushions. Buy it in pairs and the two can serve as occasional seating around a coffee table.
