Product Overview
Peony Vase – Gold Bronze with Openwork Flower is a hollow-cast bronze bronze vase with polished gold with black patina accents. The subject — a polished gold vase with a black peony opening as its negative space — the flower cut from the vessel wall itself — is drawn with clean sculptural planes rather than surface fuss, so the piece reads clearly from across the room and keeps rewarding detail up close. It is sized for sideboards, consoles and reception counters.
The second model takes the idea further: the waist appears worn away where the bloom emerges, the negative space widening until the flower is fully released — a before-and-after narrative on the same shelf.
The finish is sealed against fingerprints and daily handling. On a sideboard, console or reception counter, the piece works as a quiet anchor in the room — close enough to touch, solid enough to stay put, and simple to care for with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
Design Inspiration: The Flower That Breaks the Vase
Western still life painted vases with flowers cut and brought indoors; this series reverses the direction and inverts the form — the flower is the negative space of the vessel, a black peony blooming out of the polished gold wall itself. The image is part design joke, part memento: beauty does not wait for permission. The sculpted black peony reads almost carved, a dark bloom against bright metal, and the eroded rim on the second model lets the breakthrough complete itself.
Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina
The piece is produced by the traditional lost-wax method. Wax is modelled from the master, invested in a ceramic shell and burnt out, and molten bronze is poured into the cavity, so the finished casting is a hollow bronze shell rather than a solid block — lighter to handle, easier to place, and true to the way fine bronzes have been made for centuries. After casting, the surface is chased and polished by hand, then patinated in layered tones and sealed.
Undercut petals are the casting challenge here — wall thickness through the flower is verified and every petal edge is hand-dressed to keep the layers crisp.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can it hold water and real flowers?
It is sealed inside like our other bronzes, but it is conceived as a sculpture rather than a working vase — the open flower breaks the vessel wall. Most clients display it alone or with dried stems above the bloom.
2. Are the two models a pair?
Yes — same peony, same gold, one intact and one eroded. Displayed together they tell the whole story, which makes them a popular shelf pairing and a memorable gift.
3. Is each sculpture exactly the same?
The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.
4. What is the MOQ?
We work with both single-piece orders and bulk project orders. Contact us with your quantity and destination port for an accurate quotation and lead time.
5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?
Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
