Damo’s Enlightenment II – Zen

Hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, 490 × 150 × 377 mm, 3 kg. Golden Bodhidharma within a bronze ring, finished with a hand-applied, sealed patina — ideal for desks, shelves and reception counters.

Product Overview

This bodhidharma bronze takes golden Bodhidharma within a bronze ring as its subject and edits everything else away — no clutter, no fuss, just the gesture and the mass of the animal carried in hollow-cast bronze. a hand-applied patina is applied by hand and sealed. At 490 × 150 × 377 mm, it is sized for desks, shelves and console tops.

The composition is a triangle: head, knees, base. Robe folds are few and long, guiding the eye down to the settled base; the face and hands carry the fine work, as tradition requires.

The patina is built up in layers and sealed, which means tone varies slightly from piece to piece — the mark of genuine hand finishing rather than a sprayed imitation. On a desk, shelf or console top, it holds its own without competing with the furniture around it, and it needs no more care than an occasional soft-cloth dusting.

Design Inspiration: Stillness in a Restless World

Bodhidharma — Damo — is the patriarch of Zen: the monk who sat facing a wall for nine years, and the face of the mindfulness now practiced in homes and offices across the West. Bronze has always been the material for such figures, and this piece follows the tradition: a settled posture, closed eyes, and drapery resolved into a few calm planes. For international interiors it reads instantly as meditation and calm — the one subject that seems to slow the room down.

Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina

Every sculpture is hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method: a wax model is taken from the original master, encased in a ceramic shell, burnt out and replaced with molten bronze. The raw casting is cleaned, welded and refined entirely by hand before the patina is applied layer by layer and sealed. Because the patina is finished by hand, each piece varies slightly in tone and depth — a mark of genuine cast bronze rather than a sprayed imitation.

Gilding-style tones are built up in layers and sealed; on two-tone versions the robe’s inner face is finished in a contrasting warm tone before assembly.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is the figure?

Bodhidharma (Damo), the monk credited with bringing Chan (Zen) Buddhism to China, famous for nine years of wall-facing meditation. Figures of Damo are a classic subject for tea rooms and studies.

2. Is this suitable for a tea room or meditation space?

It is one of our most requested subjects for exactly those settings — the seated calm of the figure suits tea tables, meditation corners and spa receptions. Choose the size by the surface it will stand on.

3. Is each sculpture exactly the same?

The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.

4. What is the MOQ?

We work with both single-piece orders and bulk project orders. Contact us with your quantity and destination port for an accurate quotation and lead time.

5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?

Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
