Product Overview
This bronze takes a Taihu rock rebuilt in geometric black facets with a gold spine as its subject and edits everything else away — no clutter, no fuss, just the gesture and the presence of the form carried in hollow-cast bronze. a glossy black finish with polished gold accents is applied by hand and sealed. At 1000 × 300 × 300 mm, it is designed for lobby floors and large entrance surfaces.
Each model keeps the classic Taihu silhouette — tall, leaning, riddled with channels — but the surface is smoother than limestone, more like weathered metal, which suits modern interiors. Openings pierce the body completely, so light and sight lines pass through.
Because every surface is patinated by hand before sealing, the finish has depth: brighter where the forms rise, deeper in the hollows. Placed on lobby floors and large entrance surfaces, the sculpture reads as a lived-in bronze object rather than a plated ornament, and it keeps its tone with nothing more than routine dusting.
Design Inspiration: The Scholar’s Rock, Reinterpreted
The Taihu stone has been the scholar’s companion since the Song dynasty, judged on four virtues — 瘦, 皱, 漏, 透. A rock on the desk was a mountain in the mind: a place to travel without leaving the studio. A bronze Taihu stone carries the same promise with none of the fragility, and its verdigris-and-gold surface makes it at home in a contemporary loft as in a literati study.
Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina
The piece is produced by the traditional lost-wax method. Wax is modelled from the master, invested in a ceramic shell and burnt out, and molten bronze is poured into the cavity, so the finished casting is a hollow bronze shell rather than a solid block — lighter to handle, easier to place, and true to the way fine bronzes have been made for centuries. After casting, the surface is chased and polished by hand, then patinated in layered tones and sealed.
Verdigris and gold patinas are layered with resist work between them, then sealed — the goal is depth in the voids and brightness on the ridges.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is a Taihu stone, for customers unfamiliar with it?
A limestone from Lake Tai near Suzhou, eroded into holes and channels over centuries, prized by Chinese scholars as the perfect desk-sized mountain. Our version is hollow-cast in bronze with the same character — the voids, the lean, the dignity — without the weight or fragility of stone.
2. Why bronze instead of real stone?
Bronze lets us control the silhouette precisely and add the gold accents that make the piece work in modern interiors. It is also far lighter and tougher than a comparable limestone, so it ships and displays safely.
3. Is each sculpture exactly the same?
The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.
4. What is the MOQ?
We work with both single-piece orders and bulk project orders. Contact us with your quantity and destination port for an accurate quotation and lead time.
5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?
Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
