Hillstone No.4 – Blue Verdigris Bronze Sculpture

Hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, 410 × 200 × 730 mm, 7.0 kg. A fourth hillstone, crest arched high like a wave about to break, finished with a hand-applied, sealed patina — ideal for living rooms, hotel lounges and reception areas.

Product Overview

Hillstone No.4 – Blue Verdigris Bronze Sculpture is a hollow-cast bronze mountain sculpture with a blue verdigris patina with gold accents. The subject — a fourth hillstone, crest arched high like a wave about to break — is drawn with clean sculptural planes rather than surface fuss, so the piece reads clearly from across the room and keeps rewarding detail up close. At 410 × 200 × 730 mm, it is sized for sideboards, consoles and reception counters.

Each hillstone is a low, horizontal mass — some crests curl upward, some hollow out like a wind-carved ridge, one arches high like a wave about to break. Gold breaks along the top edges where sun would strike a real ridge line.

Because every surface is patinated by hand before sealing, the finish has depth: brighter where the forms rise, deeper in the hollows. Placed on sideboards, consoles and reception counters, the sculpture reads as a lived-in bronze object rather than a plated ornament, and it keeps its tone with nothing more than routine dusting.

Design Inspiration: Mountains, Horizontal

Land art gave the West a new way to look at hills — Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer moved earth itself into art, and suddenly the horizontal landscape became sculpture you could put in a room. This series borrows that scale of thinking: a single sweep of hill, blue-green with verdigris, its ridge crested in gold, curled or hollowed like a landform caught by the wind.

Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina

Every sculpture is hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method: a wax model is taken from the original master, encased in a ceramic shell, burnt out and replaced with molten bronze. The raw casting is cleaned, welded and refined entirely by hand before the patina is applied layer by layer and sealed. Because the patina is finished by hand, each piece varies slightly in tone and depth — a mark of genuine cast bronze rather than a sprayed imitation.

The blue verdigris is layered over a darker ground and hand-rubbed on the ridges before sealing; gold crests are polished separately so the two finishes stay crisp against each other.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I use several hillstones together?

Yes — the four models share height and patina language on purpose. A row of three along a long console reads as one continuous range, which is exactly the effect the series was designed for.

2. Why blue-green rather than stone grey?

Verdigris is the color bronze turns in the landscape — it signals real material and age, and it lifts the piece against grey interiors. Gold crests add the sunrise note that keeps the form from going flat.

3. Is each sculpture exactly the same?

The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.

4. What is the MOQ?

We work with both single-piece orders and bulk project orders. Contact us with your quantity and destination port for an accurate quotation and lead time.

5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?

Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
