Seated Lady Playing the Erhu – Bronze Sculpture

Hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, 13.6 kg. A seated green-robed lady playing the erhu, finished with a hand-applied, sealed patina — ideal for living rooms, hotel lounges and reception areas.

Product Overview

Model XL18A1-11 is built around a single image: a seated green-robed lady playing the erhu. The piece is hollow-cast by the traditional lost-wax method, then patinated and sealed by hand, so a hand-applied green patina sits over crisp, hand-chased detail. It is sized for sideboards, consoles and reception counters.

The seated silhouette is compact and triangular: robe spreading to the base, torso leaning gently toward the instrument, face tilted in concentration. The green robe carries the color; the gilded face and hands draw the eye to the performer.

The finish is sealed against fingerprints and daily handling. On a sideboard, console or reception counter, the piece works as a quiet anchor in the room — close enough to touch, solid enough to stay put, and simple to care for with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Design Inspiration: The Seated Ensemble

Western sculpture has its seated muses — calm figures absorbed in thought or art, ideal for library and lounge. This series borrows that seated calm for the Chinese musician: a green-robed lady with a gilded face, sitting with her guqin, erhu or flute, mid-phrase. The seated pose lowers the sculpture’s center of gravity, making it feel settled and intimate — a piece for rooms where people actually sit and talk.

Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina

Casting begins with the original master model. A wax copy is coated in ceramic, fired, and replaced with molten bronze in the lost-wax method our foundry has used for years. The hollow-cast bronze is then fettled and finished by hand — seams removed, detail sharpened, surface evened — before the patina is built up in successive washes and sealed to protect the tone. Small variations between pieces are the signature of hand finishing, not a defect.

The seated pose is cast hollow with uniform walls and checked for balance; the wide robe hem doubles as a stable base ring for level placement on flat surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why is the face gilded while the robe is green?

The two-tone finish follows a classic Chinese sculpture logic: gilding honors the figure, verdigris dresses the body. It also helps at a distance — the warm face keeps the sculpture human even when the robe blends into the interior.

2. Do the seated musicians work as a set?

Yes. The guqin, flute and erhu players share the same robe, finish and scale, so they can be grouped as a small ensemble on a long console — a favorite arrangement for hotels and restaurants.

3. Can I order this piece in a different color?

Yes. The finish shown is the standard patina of this model, but the same sculpture can be produced in other tones — warm brown, antique gold, verdigris green or a custom two-tone patina. Hand patina is our standard process, so an alternative finish does not significantly affect lead time.

4. Is each sculpture exactly the same?

The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.

5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?

Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
