Wukong – Monkey King

Hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method, 156 × 113 × 280 mm, 1.2 kg. Enamel Monkey King seated with golden staff, finished with a hand-applied, sealed patina — ideal for desks, shelves and reception counters.

Product Overview

Model XL20A2-17 is built around a single image: enamel Monkey King seated with golden staff. The piece is hollow-cast by the traditional lost-wax method, then patinated and sealed by hand, so a hand-applied patina sits over crisp, hand-chased detail. At 156 × 113 × 280 mm, it is sized for desks, shelves and console tops.

The enamel-style color areas are laid out like stage costume: strong shapes, clear boundaries, and one or two bright accents against the deeper body tones.

Because every surface is patinated by hand before sealing, the finish has depth: brighter where the forms rise, deeper in the hollows. Placed on desks, shelves and console tops, the sculpture reads as a lived-in bronze object rather than a plated ornament, and it keeps its tone with nothing more than routine dusting.

Design Inspiration: The Monkey King’s Spirit

Sun Wukong — the Monkey King — is China’s most beloved hero: rebellious, clever, and ultimately loyal, known worldwide through Journey to the West, opera, film and games. Like the great trickster-heroes of world folklore, he stands for cleverness outrunning brute force — and for the loyalty that finally redeems the trickster. This bronze takes the character at rest: seated, staff in hand, eyes ahead — the calm of a figure who has been through the journey.

Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina

Every sculpture is hollow-cast in bronze by the traditional lost-wax method: a wax model is taken from the original master, encased in a ceramic shell, burnt out and replaced with molten bronze. The raw casting is cleaned, welded and refined entirely by hand before the patina is applied layer by layer and sealed. Because the patina is finished by hand, each piece varies slightly in tone and depth — a mark of genuine cast bronze rather than a sprayed imitation.

The face is the heart of the piece — the golden eyes and quick grin are modeled and finished by hand, and the color boundaries around them are cleaned up under magnification.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Who is this figure?

Sun Wukong, the Monkey King of Journey to the West — hero of the pilgrimage to the West, famous for his golden staff and his irrepressible spirit. The piece shows him seated at rest, staff in hand.

2. Are the colored areas paint?

No — the color is hand-applied patina and enamel-style finishing, sealed like the rest of the surface. It will not peel like paint; normal dusting is all the care it needs.

3. Is each sculpture exactly the same?

The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.

4. What is the MOQ?

We work with both single-piece orders and bulk project orders. Contact us with your quantity and destination port for an accurate quotation and lead time.

5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?

Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
