Product Overview
Cast by the traditional lost-wax method and finished entirely by hand, this bronze figure presents a lady riding a trotting horse while playing the sheng, the ancient Chinese mouth organ. a warm brown patina gives the surface its depth, and the simplified planes keep the design readable in modern interiors. It is sized for sideboards, consoles and reception counters.
Poses are balanced for display on flat surfaces: the mass settles over a compact base even when the robes fly, so the sculpture stands secure on consoles and piano tops.
Because every surface is patinated by hand before sealing, the finish has depth: brighter where the forms rise, deeper in the hollows. Placed on sideboards, consoles and reception counters, the sculpture reads as a lived-in bronze object rather than a plated ornament, and it keeps its tone with nothing more than routine dusting.
Design Inspiration: The Gilded Performer
Gilt bronze is the material of Western treasure — French mantel figurines, gilded muses on piano tops — and it always lifts a room. This series applies that gilded warmth to the Chinese performer: ladies playing the pipa, the erhu, the guqin, the flute — even a sheng player on horseback — drawn with elongated elegance. The gold tone reads festive without being loud, and it pairs beautifully with dark woods, marble and deep-colored walls.
Craftsmanship: Lost-Wax Casting and Hand Patina
Casting begins with the original master model. A wax copy is coated in ceramic, fired, and replaced with molten bronze in the lost-wax method our foundry has used for years. The hollow-cast bronze is then fettled and finished by hand — seams removed, detail sharpened, surface evened — before the patina is built up in successive washes and sealed to protect the tone. Small variations between pieces are the signature of hand finishing, not a defect.
The golden finish is a layered patina with selective hand polishing — brighter on the instrument and face, softer on the robes — sealed to keep the warmth from going brassy.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is the gold finish polished brass or patinated bronze?
It is patinated bronze — the golden tone is produced chemically on the bronze surface and then hand-polished in places and sealed. It is not a plated or lacquered finish, so it will not peel or flake.
2. Can I mix several musicians from this series in one display?
Yes — the series is designed as a family: pipa, erhu, guqin and flute players, plus the horseback sheng player, share proportions and finish, so two or three together read as an ensemble. Project orders can take the full set.
3. Can I order this piece in a different color?
Yes. The finish shown is the standard patina of this model, but the same sculpture can be produced in other tones — warm brown, antique gold, verdigris green or a custom two-tone patina. Hand patina is our standard process, so an alternative finish does not significantly affect lead time.
4. Is each sculpture exactly the same?
The casting comes from the same mold, so the form is consistent. The patina, however, is applied by hand, which means slight variations in tone between individual pieces — a normal characteristic of genuine cast bronze.
5. How is the sculpture packed for shipping?
Each piece is wrapped in protective foam and packed in a reinforced export carton; larger pieces travel in a foam-lined wooden crate. Wooden crates are standard for project shipments.
